Lot Description:Kodak Australian Federation Photograph Album
album records the visit to Melbourne in May 1901 of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York (later King George V and Queen Mary) who came to open the first Federal Parliament. The Royal visit confirmed Australia's links with Britain and was a festive and grand ceremony. The streets of Melbourne were decorated with arches, banners and flags in honour of the Royal couple. Arches include Triumph Arch, Edward VII Arch, Butter Box Arch, Chinese Arch, Queen Victoria Arch, German Arch, etc., album with a cream Buckram cover
album 15.4cm high x 18.1cm wide x 1.5cm deep -
Notes:The Royal couple left England on 16 March 1901 in the Ophir, an Orient liner of 6910 tons, specially converted for the purpose. It had a Naval escort. Edward VII was King of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions and Emperor of India from 22 January 1901 till his death in 1910.
