Lot Description:Antique pair Japanese carved ivory figures
including a Chinese gentleman, Tobosaku, (Tung Fang So), who was the advisor of Wung Ti, of the Han Dynasty, (221AD), who became an Immortal. The other figure is a woman with peaches. She is Seiobo, (Si Wang-Mu), the queen of the fairies. She is also called Kitai Kimbo, and is perhaps a transformation of Indra. Each figure is carved and signed by Hidemitsu. Height 21cm approx, each, (figure only). -
Provenance:Each figure was acquired by the vendor's family in Hawaii during the 1960s. A descriptive note from The Gallery, Lahaina, Maui, is available. Each figure has a carved wood stand.
