2.5 grams This ring is the earliest dateable piece of Ballarat jewellery found so far and predates by a year the previous piece, a Ballarat gold ring dated 1859 sold by Leski Auctions for some $41,000 -
Notes:Family history suggests that this ring was made from a piece of the "Welcome Nugget" which at the time (1858) was the largest piece of gold found anywhere in the world measuring 20 inches long, 12 inches wide, 8 inches thick, weighed 2217 troy ounces (69 kg) and was 99.6 pure gold, making this ring possibly the oldest datable piece of Ballarat jewellery
