Lot Description:A Copper Alloy Shakyamuni Buddha, Inlaid with Silver, Attributed to Shisou, with an Inscription, Probably Ming or Later
with soft facial features, smiling gently in meditation, below tight curls with a slightly raised ushnisha & una, an ample robe falling in folds around the shoulders with fine silver inlay & a swastika on his chest, hands resting in his lap in the mudra of meditation, patinated to a copper brown
H 25, W 18, D 16 cm -
Provenance:A distinguished Sydney collector, acquired 30 years ago.

Notes:The patina & stylistically the Buddha appears to be from the Ming Dynasty. Shisou is believed to have been active in the 16th/17th century. Or it was a group of artisans, from a region, that were highly regarded for fine silver inlay.
