Provenance:Acquired from the artist’s descendants in Sydney by Tim McCormick circa 1980s. A collection of similar works depicting Sydney and surroundings (some signed by Turner) from the same source was acquired by the Mitchell Library in 2002.

Notes:This vignette, shows the outlook over Corio Bay from the carriage entrance to Mack’s Hotel, Geelong. Turner had arrived in Melbourne in 1856 after having visited Geelong, (probably staying at the prominent hotel run by Joseph Gardner Mack), Portsea and the Forrest Creek Diggings, then travelling to Sydney in 1857.
