    1963 CHEVROLET CORVAIR COUPE LHD
    VIN: 309270111661
  • Notes:
The design and development of the Chevrolet Corvair was led by the General Manager of Chevrolet, Ed Cole, who had previously served as the company’s Chief Engineer. The Corvair was Avant-garde, deviating from the traditional design expectations in America at the time with subtler lines than the flamboyant tail-fins and extravagant chromework of its Chevrolet predecessors. The portmanteau of Corvair represents Corvette and Bel Air and it was the first unibody built by Fisher. Cole conceived this car as direct competition Chevrolet’s European rivals with the automatic transmission, rear-engined, air-cooled horizontally opposed 6-cylinder motor constructed to a large extent in aluminium, fuelled by a single Roche carburettor. It had independent suspension to all four wheels. The tyres were of a wide, low-profile design adding to the Corvair’s differences. Time magazine put Ed Cole and the Corvair on the cover, and Motor Trend named the Corvair as the “Car of the Year” in 1960, while many of the engineering designs employed earned patents. A range of models were produced from 1960 to 1969. This car was imported into Australia in March 2006 by Mr. Kimball Kader. Provenance available indicates that the car was originally delivered to Mr. William C. Fox of Saratoga, California in February 1963 from Courtesy Chevrolet of San Jose. The original service book accompanies the car but no servicing history has been recorded. The ownership was transferred to Mrs. Katherine Clement of San Mateo possibly in 1982, then eventually sold to Clem Smith on behalf of Mr Mark Woodroffe of Silverstone, NSW, in January 2009. The personal log book of the original owner accompanies the car. This car is in its original factory LHD configuration with an automatic transmission and factory A/C. This car has an odometer reading of 78,955 miles approx. It retains the Fisher body plate and the original radio by Chevrolet. The burgundy paint and black vinyl interior bear the original patina presenting a great opportunity for the next owner to restore and preserve this iconic American car. The sale is accompanied by a Clark’s Corvair Parts catalogue dated 2002-2006, additional price list supplements and the ownership and importation documentation. This vehicle will be sold unregistered. NO RESERVE.
