[1824-1904]
(A young horse with Aboriginal strapper)
Watercolour on paper
20 x 25cm
signed and dated “A.S.R.Collard 1863” at lower right -
Provenance:Removed from the Eliott Family scrapbook which had originally been owned by Jane Richards (nee Nicholas).

Notes:The painting is believed to depict the foal portrayed in the previous painting, being led by an aboriginal strapper. The setting matches that of the earlier painting. It is known that William Panton had an aboriginal stockman named Wabra Charlie, who had been born in North Queensland. He worked for the Panton family until his death in 1868. In his honour, the family erected a headstone in the Kempsey cemetry. It is assumed that the strapper in the painting is Wabra Charlie.
