  • Notes:
The Mercedes-Benz 300SL is regarded as one of the greatest sports cars of all time. With its tremendous sporting performances with notaries such as Stirling Moss behind the wheel at events like the Mille Miglia in the 1950s, the legend of the ‘Gullwing’ and the 300SL roadster was born. Between 1955 and 1963 Mercedes-Benz utilised the success of the 300SL, by concurrently producing the sibling 190SL. Maintaining the 300SL styling cues, most notably in the ‘eye-brow’ wheel arches, the 190SL like the 300SL has all-round independent suspension, a twin carburettor 1,897cc four-cylinder version of the three litre six-cylinder and of course exemplary Mercedes-Benz build quality and attention to detail both mechanically and stylistically. The 190SL two seater roadster was aimed very much at the American market (having been launched at the New York Motor Show) and was awash with sharp detail, and again like the 300SL made significant use of the Mercedes-Benz three pointed star as a prominent feature when viewing the vehicle from front on. The 190SL is a most attractive sports car and highly desirable. Despite its high cost when new it was very popular indeed and some 25,881 units were built before it was replaced by the new shape 230SL. This left hand drive 1957 Mercedes-Benz 190SL is presented in the classic colour combination of silver with navy blue interior. The vehicle was fully restored approximately 15 years ago since when it has covered just 455 miles. Overall the car is in very good order with just some light scuffs from usage and slight creasing to the leather on the bucket seats. To the best of our knowledge this 190SL came to Australia just prior to the time of its restoration in Newcastle, NSW, when we are told it was stripped back to bare metal. It was last registered in NSW in August 2009.
