Lot Description:A fine Meiji period carved ivory figure of a geisha
she kneels wearing a patterned robe and obi, her right hand elevated and balancing a ball on the back of it, a training aid for her poise, (restoration at wrist), signature engraved under the base. Ex. the collection of Sir Heaton Rhodes, Christchurch, one of New Zealand’s early diplomats to Japan. Height 110. -
