    A finely carved ‘palm’ (fingering) piece in rich red lacquered amber
    with faint touches of yellow-gold colouring, 2½ x2”; finely carved with entwined dragon on one side, in low relief. (Ming period or earlier) Offered along with two smaller pieces of natural amber. The fingering piece 65 x 58.
  • Provenance:
    This and the following eight lots are offered on behalf of our vendor who received them as part of his family’s estate dispersal made in 1969 in England. The pieces are listed in a typescript appraisal of the time along with a broad collection of Oriental Objects-d’Art distributed to other family members with an annotated value then of almost GBP£12,000 or NZD$340,000 in today’s money.
  • Notes:
    The secret of lacquering amber was lost in Ming times and pieces of this quality are now very rare.
