Lot Description:Silver Mounted Flintlock Fowler By Barber/Twigg
13 bore; 37¼" ½ rnd, ½ oct damascus barrel; TWIGG engraved to top barrel flat, rhs flat LONDON, engraved scroll to lhs; borderline engraved lock marked BARBER; elegant swan necked cock & integral pan; gold lined touch hole; shell & flame finial; elegant silver mounted furniture; floral tribute to barrel & t/guard; silver hallmarks IK (John King 1764); bouquet of flowers to ornate silver butt plate & shell pattern on tang; silver skeleton side plate, with thistles & branches; vg profiles & clear markings; lovely re-browned patina to barrel; soft grey finish to lock, cock & fittings; mellow patina to silver furniture; vg stock with join to the 1st keyway, having been professionally done, possibly when made, as barrel is extremely long. Featured in Great British Gun Makers 1740-1790 by W.Keith Neal & D.H.L. Back, p.168 A fine piece for the flintlock fowler collector. C.1764. -
