Lot Description:Historic Australian Provinence, E.Whitney Navy Model Percussion Revolver, 2Nd Model 5Th Type
36 Cal; 190mm (7½") oct barrel with top flat marked E.WHITNEY NEW HAVEN; 6 shot cylinder; plain frame; brass t/guard; g. profiles & clear markings; soft greyish patina to barrel, loading lever, frame, cylinder & back strap; mellow finish to t/guard; vg orig grips with traces of orig varnish; all complete; gwo & vg cond. With orig leather holster marked JAMES HOLDEN MAKER ADELAIDE, who were saddlers & leather work contractors & later on turned to coach & body rebuilding. The business was purchased by General Motors America to become General Motors Holden of the famous Holden motor car. A rare example of this early leather work of James Holden. The revolver was owned by Richard Edwards, a pioneer of Edwards Crossing, now called Murray Bridge & handed down through 3 generations of family. The Clarks were in the Mobalong district for 20 years & later a store keeper on the Overland Telegraph line during construction from Adelaide to Darwin. A great piece of Australian history. Complete with all relevant documentation. -
