Lot Description:British 1879 Patt Midshipman'S Naval Dirk
f. to g. 17¾” single edged blade with greyish appearance & a few sections of dark spotting; worn etching of FRASER & DAVIS HIGH STREET PORTSMOUTH; decoration includes ROYAL CYPHER fouled anchor & acanthus leaves; obverse side grey patina VR & ROYAL CYPHER; brass cross pc with acorn tips; lion's head pommel back pc fitted with vg white fish skin grips bound with copper wire; aged soft patina to cross pc & hilt fittings; all complete in orig brass mounted leather scabbard with locket marked C.I. PROWSE. Prowse was in command of the battle cruiser H.M.S. Queen Mary which was lost at sea at the battle of Jutland in 1916. -
