Lot Description:Extremely Rare Enfield Long Lever Martini Henry Rifle
dated 1887; 402 Cal; 33.2" barrel; vg to exc bore; blue metal finish; vg wood with ENFIELD MARTINI MKIV-1 painted to lhs of rear forewood; vgwo & cond. This rifle was originally on display in the Woolwich Arsenal Museum. It was always thought to be a converted Martini to 577/450 as description painted on woodwork indicates. When the Woolwich Museum closed the Woolwich collection was transferred to the Enfield Royal Ordnance Factory Museum where it was discovered that the rifle had been labelled incorrectly. 402 Enfields are extremely scarce, research some years ago suggest that there are no more than a dozen left in the world as the original 402 Enfield Martinis originally manufactured were all converted to 457/450. This rifle was acquired from the Enfield ROF in the 1980's. -
