  inscribed ‘Abdom et Multon, Aouston, et Division Thomas de Colmar, A. Paris Inventeur No. 1168’. Charles Xavier Thomas de Colmar of France was the first to manufacture mechanical calculating machines as an independent industry. The Arithmometer was the first truly successful desktop calculator to be commercially sold and distributed. Length 580.
