    A N.Z. Parliamentary Native Lands Claims Department petty cash box
    in mahogany with brass capping and binding, the hinged lid with cast annular ring named from the department encircling a recessed brass handle engraved 'J Fitzgibbon'. 315 x 250 x 80. Fitzgibbon and his brother Graham are believed to have arrived from Liverpool in 1860 and their main business was to act for various land owners as rent collectors and settle squatter's land claims. Removed from service and subsequently given to Lord Charles Wakefield, the founder of Castrol Oil, the box was sold with a collection of other boxes relating to Antipodean history in the Wakefield collection auction in England in 2006.
