  • Notes:
    McInnes was 26 years old when he painted this watercolour. Captured by the myths surrounding Gallipoli in 1915 this is McInnes’ response to the battlefield. McInnes studied at the National Gallery of Victoria School of Art between 1909-1911 and went on to become Australia’s most successful portrait painter winning the prestigious Archibald Prize for portrait painting seven times including four in a row, 1921-1924. Also known as an accomplished landscape artist winning the Wynne Prize for landscape painting in 1918. His work is represented in every major public art gallery in Australia.
