    A fine Kassa Mala Kingdom gilt-bronze figure of Green Tara (Syamatara), circa 14th century
    Seated in lalitasana on a double-lotus throne, a lotus branch at each shoulder, encrusted with semi-precious stones, the back of the throne painted ref (typical of Kassa Mala bronzes), the rear of the head and crown with polychrome, sealed
    15cm high

    Purchased at the New York Asia and Pacific Fair, March 2007; From a US private collection
  • Notes:
    Green tara is a female Bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism, and a female Buddha in Vajrayana Buddhism. She is known as the Buddha of Enlightened Activity, and is most dynamic manifestation.
