Folding map, errata. Volume II: 607p. 2012. Beddie 1247. Full leather. Rebacked. New endpapers. Hinges reinforced. Trimming to contents. Some wear to original boards, especially to extremities. Some foxing to contents, especially to last pages of volume I and first pages of volume II. Bookplate of Doddington Library on front pastedowns. Tidy repair to reverse of map. George, or Georg, Forster's narrative of Cook's second voyage was prepared largely from his father's journals under the latter's guidance and direction, to be published six weeks before that of Cook. Despite being deprived of drawings or engravings, the text gives an original, perceptive and most readable presentation, with much information and some insight lacking in the formal official narrative.
