Lot Description:Mundy, Godfrey Charles - Our antipodes : or, Residence and rambles in the Australasian colonies. With a glimpse of the gold fields. In three volumes.
2nd, revised ed. London : Richard Bentley, 1852. 8vo. Volume I: xii, [17]-410p. Frontispiece, four plates. Volume II: viii, [9]-405p. Frontispiece, plate. Volume III: viii, 431p. Frontispiece, six plates. 3671. Decorated blue cloth. Repairs to bindings. Wear, soiling and foxing. Despite the modest claim that the book 'is intended to be a light work' Mundy's detailed, lively and first-hand comment, his observations on Grey interrogating Maori chiefs during a sea voyage, even the background gleanings from the campaigns just concluded, give the narrative interest and value. A serviceable set. AF. G. [3]. -
