  Handwritten note by artist verso dated June, 1948 addressed: "Dear Mr Bonython, Going through my folio I found this drawing - the working drawing for "Sofala Street," which you have. It struck me that it would interest you on that account, although it is a pretty rough effort & of more interest as a curio than a work of art, & has no life of its own apart from the painting that grew out of it. So I hope you will accept this souvenir as a present from [signed] Donald Friend" The oil painting "Sofala Street," 1947 is in the collection of the Art Gallery of NSW.
