Lot Description:A Famille Rose Yellow-Ground Covered Bowl, Guangxu Six-Character Mark In Iron Red, Early 20th Century
the auspicious bowl decorated with enamels and gilt to the exterior with four character roundels reading wanshou wujiang that may be translated as 'Ten thousand birthdays without end', all reserved on a ground of scrolls, waves and wan. The interiors with five bats surrounding a central shou character, the bats representative of the five blessings, wufu, namely longevity, wealth, health, virtue, and peace, the shou symbol, for longevity, 13.5cm high, the bowl 23cm diameter -
Provenance:Private Collection, Melbourne, thence by descent to the current owner whose great aunt was once a performer and socialite in China during the 1890s- 1930s.
