Lot Description:- 1848 (Jan) long Toulmin Packet cover from England to a 'Cattle Dealer/Gundaroo, County of Murray/New South Wales' with 'LEEDS' cds & London Paid cds
endorsed 'above 1oz' & rated '4/-' both in red, 'SHIP LETTER/[crown]/JA17/1849/SYDNEY' b/s, poor GPO Sydney cds & rated '7/4d' in black (confirmed by addition on the reverse), endorsed 'not to be found at Gundaroo' & at left 'Advertised/Unclaimed/July 1849', apparently returned under cover to England where 'RETURNED FROM' h/s in red applied below 'Gundaroo', rather battered & soiled but 'full of character'. A rare high-rate survivor. Carried from London per Toulmin Packet 'Alert', departed Gravesend 1/9/1848, arrived Sydney 17/1/1849.
