Lot Description:An exceptional Queen Anne - George I period walnut double-dome bureau bookcase
of small proportions, with ogee moulded cornice above a pair of shaped moulded mirrored doors, the mirrors with soft edge bevels and cut with attractive starbursts and crescents, enclosing four tiers of open pigeon holes and small concave fronted drawers, above a pair of candle slides; the lower section with sloping fall enclosing a tooled leather writing surface, banked pigeonholes and small concave fronted drawers, above five long graduated drawers on later bracket feet. 820 x 470 x 2000. -
Provenance:Ex the collection of Mrs Owen Rainger, purchased from John MacDonald of John Dixon Antiques.

Notes:This piece was illustrated in ‘Living With Antiques’ by Campbell Moon, past-president of the Antique Dealers Association, and attracted the comment from one of Auckland’s best regarded dealers that it was “...probably the best piece of furniture imported into New Zealand.”
