Lot Description:Pewter plate, 19th century with 'FRANKLIN' etched in the centre
From a private collection in Tasmania this plate is purported to have belonged to Sir John Franklin Polar Explorer & Governor of Van Diemen's Land. Franklin headed the ill fated 1845 Northwest Passage expedition into Arctic waters North of Canada never to return. -
