Notes:American poet Harry Roskolenko (1907 - 1980) first arrived in Australian in 1943 as a member of the US Army Transportation Services and made other several visits during World War II. After the war he firmly established himself in Australian literary circles by contributing poetry to and editing a number of local publications such as Meanjin, A Comment, Southerly and notably Angry Penguins where he worked alongside well-known figures John Reed and Max Harris. Roskolenko became US editor and representative for Angry Penguins, and arranged contributions from recognised American poets Kenneth Rexroth and Harold Rosenberg. He also co-edited the final edition of the Angry Penguin Broadsheet with Max Harris in 1946. It is through this involvement with the publication that Roskolenko would have associated with the artists Sidney Nolan, Albert Tucker, and Clifton Pugh. In 1944 Reed & Harris published Roskolenko's second book of poems titled A Second Summary for which Sidney Nolan illustrated the front cover. Again in 1970 when Roskolenko published American Civilization, Albert Tucker, John Olsen and Clifton Pugh contributed illustrations. Roskolenko made his last trip to Australia in 1976.
