Lot Description:Antique mahogany cutlery canteen with maker's mark for 'Mappin & Webb' with 4 tiers of sterling silver cutlery
lid embossed with silver plaque presented to 'Doctor David Thomas, subscribed for his many Manly friends who have learned to appreciate his kindness and to esteem him for his goodness and respect him for his professional skill, Manly NSW 13th January 1900' and contains a large qty. of cutlery most Hallmarked for London 1900, except where stated. -
Provenance:By direct descent from Dr. Thomas of Manly and the Ramsay (Baronets)/ Entwisle family of Scotland & Northern England.

Notes:First tray comprising a pierced basket (295 grams), 4 vases (note: weighted bases but total weight 985 grams), pair of berry spoons (145 grams) Hallmarked Exeter 1841, sugar tongs (50 grams), grape scissors (105 grams) Hallmarked Sheffield 1899 and a gravy spoon (135 grams). Second tray comprising 12 teaspoons (305 grams), 12 dessert forks with ornate engraved ivory handles (combined weight 665 grams) and 12 matching dessert knives (combined weight 485 grams) both Hallmarked Sheffield 1898, 12 fish knives with inlaid ivory handles (combined weight 855 grams)Hallmarked Sheffield 1897. Third tray comprising 12 fish forks, matches previous (combined weight 645 grams) and a part carving set comprising knife and 2 forks, note: carving set only steel bladed. Forth tray comprising 12 dessert forks (610 grams), 12 dessert spoons (625 grams), 12 table forks (980 grams) and 6 tablespoons (500 grams), 2 sauce ladles (160 grams) plus 2 silverplate knife rests.
