Lot Description:WILLIAM WHYSALL'S MATCH USED CRICKET BAT: Full size 'Sykes - Roy Kilner' Cricket Bat
signed in the ownership position by William Whysall, and match-used in the 1924-25 England tour of Australia. Signed on the front by 1924-25 England team, 18 signatures including Gilligan, Hobbs, Sutclliffe & Tate; signed on reverse by 1924-25 Australian team, 12 signatures including Collins, Ponsford, Richardson & Gregory. Bat varnished, so signatures in Fair/Good condition, bat with some tape reinforcement at base. -
Notes:William 'Dodge' Whysall played 4 Tests for England, was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1925, and played 371 first-class matches for Nottinghamshire. He died tragically in 1930, after slipping on a dance floor, injuring his elbow, and contracting septicaemia.
