  FARMER, John S.'Twixt Two Worlds: a Narrative of the Life and Work of William Eglinton.London, Psychological Press 18868 chromolitho plates with tissue guards, full page and other illustrations in text,(4),196pp., title page and one other (only) foxed, otherwise clean, 4to., publisher's beige cloth blocked in red and black, spine a little rubbed, spine ends and tips worn, internally a very good copy. Missing the frontispiece portrait of Eglinton by Tissot (a photocopy is loosely inserted). Eglinton was one of the most famous of the many mediums, deluded or charlatans, operating in the late 19th century. The colour plates illustrating Eglinton in various stages of trance are by the bird painter J.G.Keulemans who became a believer in spiritualism (as did Tissot) after several personal experiences, but also a crusader against the prevalence of fraud in the spiritualist world.
