DE LAIRESSE, Gerard. A Treatise on the Art of Painting, in all its Branches; Accompanied by Seventy Engraved Plates, and exemplified by remarks on the paintings of the best masters... Revised, Corrected, and accompanied with an essay, by W.M.Craig.London, Edward Orme, 1817. Two volumes complete. Frontis. to Vol.1, 68 engraved plates [of 71 -see below], iv,296,iv,294pp., some intermittent spotting and signs of use, 4to., contemporary calf, sometime excellently re-cornered and rebacked to style with raised bands, gilt and blind, and contrasting labels, retaining marbled endpapers. Missing plates 4&5 [two plates on one leaf -proportions of the female body], plate 11, figures sleeping or 'beseeching', and plate 66, painted figures in architecture (? - information implied in the text). There is no sign they were ever present in this copy.Gerard de Lairesse, 'the Dutch Poussin', (1640-1711) published 'Het Groot Schilderboek' in Amsterdam in 1707.
