    in the form of a large mallet, the cover surmounted by a seated figure of Daikoku holding his mallet and the figure of Ebisu seated on the handle holding an abacus, a small boy standing to one side, the carving with details applied in mother of pearl (2)

    These are two of the seven gods of good luck. Ebisu is the god of merchants and so is depicted with his abacus.
