    An Early Number Colt Model 1861 Navy Revolver, c 1861
    manufactured in 1861, during the height of the Civil War. This revolver has the standard Army/Navy finish, heavily pitted, with the two-line "COLTS/PATENT" marking on the left side of the frame and ‘36 CAL’ on the trigger guard. The walnut grips have an oil finish. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK USA. AMERICA-" faded in one line. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Texas Navy battle scene and "COLTS PATENT No. 3540"and “Engaged May 1848” faded to side of cylinder. The full serial number "3540" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and back strap. All of the visible serial numbers match.
