60.5cm high -
Notes:Associated with the design reform movement in the second half of the nineteenth century, Christopher Dresser is considered the first industrial designer. A prolific writer, lecturer and designer, he created forms and ornament for a wide range of manufacturers including Mintons with whom he had a long association from the 1860's to the 1880's. Dresser was inspired by botanical forms and the arts of Japan and his comprehensive and landmark publication Japan: Its Architecture, Art and Art Manufactures (1882) helped perpetuate the fashion for japonisme in the last decades of the nineteenth century. The present lot is a fine example of the influence of japonisme in Dresser's designs with the inclusion of the fan and the oriental flowers in the decoration.
