Lot Description:A supposed description of Terra Australis
HALL, Joseph [1574-1656] Pseudonym: Mercurio Britannico: 'Mundus alter et idem sive Terra Australis ante hac semper incognita longis itineribus peregrini academici nuperrime lustrata' [Gulielmus Antonius, Hanau, 1607]; duodecimo, with five folding maps in contemporary stamped vellum. -
Notes:A supposed description of Terra Australis, with a highly fanciful cartography of the continent in five eccentric maps; this is'one of the earliest, if not the earliest of the fictitious voyages set in Australia....an extremely rare work and seldom offered for sale' (Davidson).
