    A fine Japanese mixed metal presentation box, Meiji period, 1868-1912
    the silver box with a bronze and shakudo plate on the cover, inlaid with a heron in silver and gold and signed 'Toshimasa', the silver box signed by Miyamoto Shoko (Imperial family silversmith), lined with zitan wood.

    Presented to and inscribed on the inside 'Mr William Parsons'.
  • Notes:
    Parsons was a famous US civil engineer who worked on a number of major projects in the far east
