Lot Description:Important Mau / Nga Tohu Tawhito. 1100 - 1300
When Maori Ancestors first set foot on Aotearoa these were keepsakes from their home islands. These signified rank, family lineage, cultural origins or simply the thoughts and protection of their loved ones. This ancient adornment is characterised by its beautifully balanced form and symetry. The triangular cross elevation represents a key element in ancient navigation; the triangulation between Aoteoroa, Hawaii, and Rapanui.
