    A German Four-Colour Gold Snuff Box, Hanau, Late 18th Century
    oval, the surface finely reeded within coloured gold interlacing foliate borders, the side panels alternating with trailing roses, the centre of the cover engraved with later crests, the interior of the cover engraved with a later presentation inscription beneath a coat of arms, marks rubbed, numbered 2857 to rim
    8.5 cm wide, 133 gms
  • Provenance:
    Sotheby's, Geneva, 13 November 1986, lot 297
  • Notes:
    The arms and crests are those of Kemeys-Tynte with Swinnerton in pretence for Charles John Kemeys-Tynte (1800-1882). The inscription reads: In memory of Elizabeth Kemeys Tynte/Daughter of Thomas Swinnerton Esqr. and Wife of /Chas.John Kemeys tynte Esqr./by whom this was presented to his esteemed friend/George Leche Baker Esqr./10 th May 1839
