Notes:Edinburgh : W H Lizars ; London : George Phillip & Son, 1857, folio. various pagination, col. illus. Quarter bound in black morocco and dark green cloth. Raised bands and gilt title to spine. Mild wear to boards, bumps to corners and spine. Foxing to tissue guards and contents. A later issue of this outstanding anatomical atlas. The work was originally issued in 12 parts from 1822 to 1826 with a separate text in octavo format. In this later issue the text was reset in folio and combined with the plates in a much more convenient single volume. Lizar's plates were engraved by the author's brother, W H Lizars, one of the leading engravers of Edinburgh, well-known for engraving the earliest plates of Audubons' 'The Birds of America'.
