Scattered foxing to contents. Contents page and map depicting North Island tribal boundaries loose in V. 1. Considerable damage to map. Errata slip with annotations taken from V. 3 and inserted into front of V.1. 'Despite much careful and detailed research (many useful summaries of official papers and ministerial decisions still only in Rusden and not in other New Zealand general histories) the author's strong Maori sympathies affected his judgement in the use of the material' - Bagnall.
