Lot Description:A fine Chinese Huanghuali three-drawer coffer, Late Ming/early Qing Dynasty, 17th century
The top with scroll ends, a large compartment beneath, with two doors and two outer panels. The sides very well carved with two openwork dragon spandrels.
90cm high, 220cm wide, 54cm deep -
Notes:*see Christies NY, The Dr S.Y. Yip Collection , 20/9/2002, lot 51 for an almost identical coffer; This collection was formed by descendants of the Australian vendor, whose great-great grandfather was based in Peking and Shanghai between 1850-1870, where he held a high diplomatic position and it would have been at this time that he acquired the important Chinese artworks in this collection.
