Lot Description:A rare pair of George III ormolu mounted blue-john Candle Vases by Matthew Boulton
each with ovoid urn shape pale blue-john (Derbyshire spar)bodies the rims with guilloche and rosettes united by swags, with everting stiff leaf cast candle nozzle/finials, the pierced leaf-tip bases raised foliage-clasped circular foot to a square base with foliate swags on bun feet. Height: 8¼” 20 cm English, circa 1775 & later -
Notes:The inner long thread and nuts repaired and part replaced. Part re-gilt. The quartz bodies damaged and with minor repairs. Chains modern and some replacement pins. see N. Goodison, Matthew Boulton: Ormolu, London, 2002, pp.139, 291-92, figs. 108-248).
