Lot Description:BRITISH 1796 PATT HEAVY CAVALRY SWORD, "Altered Patt for Colonial issue"
28" g. straight blade with hatchet point, single fullers & a dark grey patina; CROWN over 3 inspection stamp to ricasso; traditional steel guard with quillion & languets removed; fine pitted finish to back pc & guard & marked Q over D.G. K over 3; g. grips; complete with shortened steel scabbard, no chape & marked Q D.G. 11 over 29. Quite possibly used by the Penal system in Colonial Australia. An interesting piece. -
