  In the letter accompanying this purchase Chris Charteris wrote: All the stone for this necklace has been naturally formed; I have gathered it and left to the land whalebone as an acknowledgement of it's gifting. As I feel the resources in this area are diminishing I shall not be using this material again in this configuration. The inspiration for this work comes from my connection with nature and the forces that move and shape our world. I feel often when 'making' that it is the spirit of this land that passes through and transforms what is now before us. I find the process both sacred and mystifying.'
