Lot Description:Matau – Fish Hooks (2)
Early contact period; elaborately rendered one-piece bone fish-hook with double intertwined kaniwha 'barbs'. End finely carved for line attachment. Inscribed in black ink: 'WEB COL 1247'. Early contact period; elaborately rendered one-piece shell fish-hook. Inscribed in black ink: 'WEB COL 1248'. Both hooks noted by Webster to have been found in Waimarama, Chatham Islands.
