Untitled (RMS Mongolia in Tempestuous Seas)

73 x 111 cm; framed 95 x 131 cm -
Notes:The RMS Mongolia was built in 1903 by Caird & Co., Greenock, and operated by the Indian and Peninsular Steam Navigation Company, Bombay. The SS Mongolia was used mostly on the UK-North American routes, as a passenger and mail ship, until in 1915 she was sold to the British Admiralty. She carried soldiers from Freemantle to Port Suez 22 November -14 December 1915, and 17 July-18 August 1916. On the 24 June 1917, 50 nautical miles south west of Bombay, she struck a mine laid by the SMS Wolf. Many of the survivors made it to safety on a nearby island and were later rescued.
