  A Superb Old Canoe Bailer, Coastal Sepik or Schouten Islands, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea, Early 20th Century
  finely carved from a single piece of hardwood with an Ancestor Figure on the handle and around the back on the bailer it has an old patina from long use.

• Notes:
  Every Ocean-Going Canoe had to have a Canoe Bailer like this fine example because ocean waves often wash over the edge of canoe and this ancient technology is to clear the water from the bottom of the canoe, this fine old example was brought back to Australia in 1944-45 by an Australian Soldier at the end of WW2. The Bailer was significantly old when collected 80 years ago.
