  No signature apparent.
  Old inscription verso: '... the sale of John Flaxman ... works of Art at Christie's in 1862 ... with this interesting sketch ... his friend Stothard... a heavenly Vision Of Charity... [in aid of] the Foundling Hospital'. Other correspondence indicates that the artist gave the painting to the Foundling Hospital (Bloomsbury) in about 1820 in aid of an appeal for funds. It was purchased by John Flaxman, friend of the artist.

  The artist; John Flaxman RA (1755-1826); family of John Flaxman until sold at Christie's, London in 1862; sold again by Christie's 7th June 1879 (lot 889); collection P.S. Garling, Australia; thence by descent to Mrs L.S. Humphries; thence by descent - estate late Margot D Staples, Sydney.
