Lot Description:Japanese Imari Porcelain and Ormolu Mounted Comport Meiji Era, c. 1900
circular plate painted with blossoms, butterflies and a bird, blue ribbon decoration to sides, with faux bamboo ormolu rim, on an ormolu base with four feet surmounted by demon's heads, red underglaze mark of Fukagawa Koransha, bronze stamped 'H'

Notes:Fukagawa Koransha, known as the Company of the Scented Orchid, founded in 1875 is from a long line of potters formed to produce export wares. Exhibited at international trade fairs including the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition, 1876 and the Melbourne. International Exhibition, 1880. In 1900 they were awarded the gold medal at the Paris International Exposition. The company which is still operating has served as purveyor for the Japanese Household since 1910. Clay from Amakusa was used to produce a pure white base.
