Notes:A bishop is given a ring at his consecration by his consecrator. The style of the episcopal ring has almost always been a very large, gold, stone-set ring with Roman Catholic bishops traditionally having an amethyst gemstone ring. Antonio Ruiz-Cabal y Rodríguez was the Bishop of Pamplona from 1886 to 1899. He was a Doctor of Theology & a relative of Cardinal Romo, professor and rector of the seminary (1877-84) and canon doctor of Seville. He became Bishop of Pamplona in 1886 & was consecrated in Madrid by the nuncio Rampolla. He was said to be exemplary in his conduct & was an extremely hard worker. He closely followed the vicissitudes of the Vatican, dedicating a pastoral to the Rerum Novarum of Leo XIII. During his bishopric, fourteen religious convents were founded & eight annual dowries for marriage or religious professions. Sick with diabetes, he resigned from the Church dying shortly after & was buried in the Seville cathedral.
