    The Gamblers Joy
    A highly tactical game, mahjong was developed by the great Chinese philosopher Confucius in about 500 BC. The three dragon (cardinal) tiles correlate with the three cardinal virtues bequeathed by Confucius; prosperity, sincerity and piety. Legend also suggests that Confucius was fond of birds, especially the sparrow, which would explain the name 'mahjong' (sparrow).
